Director, Navigation Credentialing

As part of the Patient Support Pillar, this position is responsible for developing the mission and revenue strategy and building program implementation plans for a comprehensive patient navigation training and credentialing program. This position plays a key role in the American Cancer Society (ACS) team responsible for expanding training and credentialing of oncology navigators by launching an initial training and certificate program in 2024. This role will oversee efforts to expand a robust navigation training, credentialing, and implementation support program (ACS Leadership in Oncology Navigation [ACS LION]) that will include the development of additional training offerings for individuals providing navigation services, accreditation, and supportive services for navigation programs and oncology practices that may include technical assistance, dissemination, and building new organizational partnerships in support of navigation sustainability. This role includes responsibility for key goals, including the number of navigators trained and certified and partnerships with health systems or other community-based organization providing navigation services. This role will oversee the development of training and credentialing offerings across the cancer continuum and the development of specialized training products. This position will participate as an integrated leader of the patient support navigation team and may lead or contribute to other navigation activities as part of ACS’ comprehensive strategy, serving as a key ACS lead for patient navigation efforts and as a resource to other ACS departments to ensure appropriate integration of activities. The selected individual will represent ACS externally through collaborative initiatives and demonstrate ACS’ health equity principles in all work. This position is responsible for connecting the ACS LION program to other components of ACS’ patient navigation strategy. This position will include supervision of X staff and will be responsible for coordinating with other mission support departments that under-pin these efforts, including finance, legal, digital solutions, and marketing.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the Vice President of Navigation, leads the development and execution of all program activities, including development of processes and managing workflows to ensure timely and effective coordination and communication within and outside the pillar.
  • Oversees content development, training development, evaluation, project management, and other key components of the program.
  • Directs development and implementation of expansion efforts for ACS LION navigation training, credentialing, and implementation support, working with ACS staff and external subject matter experts.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key partners to maximize utilization of ACS training offerings, responsible for meeting program revenue targets.
  • Creates business strategy that includes revenue streams that are re-invested into expansion of patient navigation offerings.
  • Develops long-term program strategy that includes consideration of key training offerings across the cancer continuum towards the goal of a comprehensive credentialing program.
  • Manages relationships with vendors, consultants, and other key partners in the delivery of a comprehensive training and credentialing.
  • Directs the pilot implementation and evaluation plans as part of a robust dissemination strategy.
  • Participates as a leading member of the patient support navigation team.
  • Manages day-to-day operational issues and programmatic spending to ensure the efficient functioning of projects and activities.
  • Works collaboratively with staff and/or contractors to evaluate initiatives and monitor progress.
  • Monitors external landscape in patient navigation for purposes of informing strategy development and new opportunities in patient navigation initiatives.
  • Writes and communicates periodic program reports/updates to keep stakeholders and ACS staff informed of progress.
  • Facilitate networking and collaboration between ACS and ACS CAN departments and partners for fundraising and donor contributions to support patient navigation.
  • Conducts special projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Supervises a Learning and Development Manager and other staff, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

FORMAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Master's degree in healthcare delivery, public health, or related fields preferred or BS, BA degree with 8 years project management experience in oncology care delivery.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of oncology patient navigation, previous experience as an oncology navigator strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of program management and grants management.
  • Knowledge of the operations and management of health systems, preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

SKILLS:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing, coordinating, and/or implementing public health or patient care programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and effectively communicate with multiple project leads.
  • Demonstrated ability to present on patient navigation content to external audiences.
  • Creative, outside of the box thinking welcomed.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact, collaborate, and effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver training, staff support, and community presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines and maintain schedules for deliverables related to multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret public health data and make data-driven programmatic decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications to prepare reports and presentations.

The starting rate is $100,000 to $115,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
