This is a fully remote position and can be based anywhere within the U.S.

Provides leadership for Philanthropy Leadership Annual Giving and Philanthropy Operations teams.

This role drives accountability by developing and leading strategy for long term growth of Leadership Annual Giving program to ensure a continuous pipeline of Major Gift donors. Also responsible for multi-million dollar income targets and management of a team of Directors and Leadership Annual Giving Managers. Collaborates with field and enterprise leadership to develop plans to meet and exceed targets. This role also oversees an operations team that provides critical strategic resources and support for all enterprise Philanthropy team members to reach their financial goals; including overseeing and driving strategy for the Prospect Research and Operations nationwide teams so the regions are equipped with the data and resources needed to meet revenue goals.

Leads priority strategies and enterprise-wide initiatives within the Philanthropy department with a focus on supporting critical needs of the Society’s regions. Partners with enterprise Philanthropy team and Region Philanthropy leadership to facilitate the achievement of Philanthropy revenue goals.

Facilitates region engagement across Philanthropy. Serves as a liaison between the Regional Philanthropy leadership & staff and all enterprise Development teams to ensure connectivity and excellence in execution especially as related to cross-functional and/or high-impact initiatives.

Leads or is a core participant in multiple enterprise special projects, specifically those with critical, regionwide, Philanthropy operations impact with a focus on new and groundbreaking approaches for the organization. Provides leadership in execution, evaluation and continuous improvement across Philanthropy functions of the field organization.

Serves as the lead for relationship driven fundraising strategy and operations nationwide including CRM adoption, accountability, culture, business approach, onboarding, processes, training, tracking, and evaluation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve in a leadership role to ensure nationwide achievement of Individual Development revenue goal and to facilitate growth to $100M+ yearly. 
  • Monitors path to goal for leadership annual giving team and put strategies in place to ensure revenue goal is met.  Adjust strategy as necessary throughout the year.
  • Develop strategy for leadership annual giving strategy to ensure the right donors are receiving high touch cultivation and stewardship to grow major gift pipeline.
  • Develop and implement strategy to ensure no gaps in cultivation of donors as major gifts minimum increase throughout the capital campaign.
  • Lead development of strategies for donor data, engagement strategy support, and policies and procedures across all philanthropy functions and partnering teams.
  • Ensure reporting and analytics are in place to measure philanthropy pipeline, and performance.  Create management reporting and visualizations for use by ACS leadership staff.  Determine data needed to support philanthropy management decisions at all levels of organization.
  • Serve as a liaison between the ACS Philanthropy groups and external consultants. Work with Philanthropy team leaders to determine need and ROI on external support.
  • Lead and manage initiatives that drive ongoing engagement of cross-region staff groups providing opportunities to work collaboratively, facilitate best practices, and connect relevant stakeholders.
  • Serve in a leadership role on enterprise-wide, high impact projects focused on successful execution overall and consideration for regional impact and achievement of philanthropy team goals.  Provide strategic guidance in design, execution and adoption.  Serve on multiple special projects/programs to support philanthropy and enterprise priorities on an ongoing basis.
  • Proactively identify issues and opportunities for business improvement within the regional philanthropy departments; lead collaborative efforts with Regions and departments to design and implement data and experience-based improvements.  Facilitate ongoing process review and constructive improvements based on region needs & feedback; ensure philanthropy perspective is understood and considered in decision-making, process and procedure development and all other areas impacting region work & productivity.
  • Lead collaboration between the regions and global headquarters departments, specifically the philanthropy groups, direct response, email marketing and IT teams. Work with these teams to develop opportunities for continued collaboration, improved processes and resolution of  issues that have a direct impact on the individual development fundraising and philanthropy teams. Facilitate information sharing between the GHQ and the Regional Philanthropy Teams
  • Partner with region departments to identify, scale, support, track and establish accountability for adoption of best practices; with focus on driving continued relevance through customer-centric and innovative strategies.
  • Oversees the development of annual performance objectives for Region Philanthropy staff, including performance level definitions, defining related reporting needs, and incentive programs.  Champions the adoption of measurable objectives that result in accountability and recognition.
  • Lead periodic gap analysis to identify barriers and opportunities that impact regional and GHQ philanthropy department success.  Develop strategic recommendations and solutions, gaining senior leadership approval & support as appropriate.  Select and lead teams to execute on approved recommendations.
  • Serve as the regional philanthropy point of contact for questions, information, business needs & escalated issues; drive escalated issues to resolution, including concerns regarding responsiveness, understanding of needs, and service level expectations.
  • Evaluate and provide strategic recommendations on the regional philanthropy operations to ensure decisions are still relevant and reflect the true needs in the field and enterprise wide; Identify best practices, gaps and areas that require refinement both on an enterprise and region-specific level.
  • Partner with global headquarters departments to provide philanthropy department perspective and support to strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Models and fosters behavior that establishes a culture that values the staff/volunteer partnership and is consistent with the values, goals, and objectives of the Society to create an atmosphere of trust, cooperation, accountability, empowerment and dedication to the mission.
  • Manage team of professionals in Leadership Annual Giving and Philanthropy Operations.  Mentor, coach and develop staff for success.  Ensure growth opportunities are available for all staff.

FORMAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or similarly related field or equivalent experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience driving collaborative engagement within regions or global headquarters staff preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of American Cancer Society program, strategies and organizational infrastructure a strong plus.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects from beginning to end
  • Non-profit or healthcare industry experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in relationship building, mediation, negotiation, resolution and presentation
  • Knowledge of decision-making and problem-solving techniques to facilitate effective project management and organizational leadership
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills required, especially in the ability to communicate diplomatically and persuasively on complex topics
  • Strong solutions-oriented analytical, systems and presentation skills
  • Consistent ability to set and deliver against a work plan in a fast-paced environment, giving attention to detail even under high pressure situations
  • Technical strength required (MS Office products, Salesforce, online platforms and other database software)
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate a strong customer focus.

SPECIAL MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • No or very limited physical effort required
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk
  • Travel required, up to 5%.

The starting rate is $150,000 to $160,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
