At the American Cancer Society, we're working to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Our employees and 1.3 million volunteers are raising the bar every single day. We are a culture comprised of diverse backgrounds and experience, to better serve our communities.

The people who work at the American Cancer Society focus their diverse talents on our lifesaving mission. It is a calling. And the people who answer it are fulfilled.

Expectations:

Students are expected to complete approximately 5 hours per week (at least 80 total hours) at their practicum site between January 19 and May 15, 2026. Students are expected to be professional, responsible, and respectful contributors at their sites. They should follow all agency policies, maintain confidentiality, and communicate regularly with their supervisors and me as the course instructor. Their course grade is based on a combination of site activities and academic assignments, including a weekly activity log, reflections, a practicum site presentation, an Integrating Psychological Science Presentation, a final reflective paper, and a supervisor evaluation.

Students’ responsibilities at the site may vary depending on your organization’s needs. Activities may include assisting staff, observing or shadowing professionals, supporting programming or outreach, and completing administrative or project-based tasks. Students may not provide counseling or therapy.

Placements may be in person, hybrid, or virtual. For virtual placements, students are expected to participate in some form of synchronous interaction—such as live team meetings, supervision, or virtual support sessions—to ensure meaningful engagement.

The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.

ACS provides staff a generous paid time off policy; medical, dental, retirement benefits, wellness programs, and professional development programs to enhance staff skills.
