This is a remote, home-based internship. Full time students from all US geographies will be considered.

Our 2024 Summer internship program is an 8 week Paid Internship that runs from June 3 – July 26 at 37.5 hours weekly. The program will join interns across the country who are supporting different department focuses at American Cancer Society and ACS's Cancer Action Network. 80% of the time will be in working within the given department, with the Intern's manager, their mentor, and the team. The other 20% will be with a cohort of other interns around American Cancer Society and ACS CAN.

This position will primarily support the Cancer Screening Disparities Atlas Project.

Project Description:

The goal of the Cancer Screening Disparities Atlas project is to build, integrate, and improve static and interactive tools to leverage cancer screening data for development of and to increase impact of ACS-driven initiatives. This project integrates cancer screening data from multiple sources:

·HRSA Uniform Data System (UDS)

·CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Prevalences & Trends

·CMS Mapping Medicare Disparities

·ACS Cancer Prevention & Early Detection Facts and Figures / ACS Cancer Statistics Center

·Internal activity and outcome data from ACS-driven initiatives (Salesforce and PowerBI)

 The final tool will mirror the look and functionality of the American Cancer Society's Cancer Atlas.

Internship Activities:

The Cancer Screening Intern will work closely with the Director of Cancer Screening and other members of the project team from the GIS Data Science and Data & Impact Reporting departments. They will be responsible for

·performing data management and analysis, including data entry, data cleaning and data file organization;

·contributing to the development and testing of the Cancer Screening Disparities Atlas tool;

·contributing to the internal dissemination including training modules; and

·managing project tasks to ensure timelines and deliverables are met.

Screening & Vaccination Team:

The overall aim of the Screening & Vaccination team is to improve cancer screening and vaccination through scientific thought leadership, patient awareness and education, professional education, and partnerships. The team’s primary roles are to (1) Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in cancer screening, early detection, and vaccination, (2) Provide pillar coordination, guidance, and strategies around cancer screening and vaccination, particularly to address screening disparities, and (3) Monitor and help coordinate Pillar response to emerging science, trends and technologies in the screening and vaccination space. 

Position Requirements:

Must be available for entirety of 8 week program: June 3 – July 26, 2024 at 37.5 hours per week.

Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you have completed your freshman year of college;

Preferred Majors: Bachelor's or Master's in Public Health

Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale);

Plan to continue your education in the following term/semester;

Note: an internship assignment may coincide with your last term/trimester as a full time student, but the internship must be disengaged upon graduation.

The starting rate is $17 to $20. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
