The Associate Chief of Staff for the Chief Legal and Risk Officer (CLRO) will support the CLRO in leading the legal and risk management functions of the organization. This role will oversee and coordinate a broad portfolio of projects within the Office of the CLRO, liaising with senior leadership, legal teams, compliance officers, and external stakeholders to ensure strategic objectives are met efficiently. The Associate Chief of Staff will facilitate the development and implementation of policies, manage cross-functional initiatives, and support the preparation of reports, presentations, and legal documentation. The ideal candidate will ensure the CLRO is well-prepared for daily responsibilities, and will actively contribute to strategic initiatives, risk mitigation efforts, and organizational compliance.
**This is a remote role. We welcome applicants from across the U.S., though preference will be given to those based on the East Coast to better align with team schedules.**
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The responsibilities of this role are dynamic and may evolve; however, primary duties include:
- Facilitating the completion of projects initiated by the CLRO, creating and managing timelines, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability for deliverables. (20%)
- Developing the strategic plan, goals and objectives, metrics and KPIs to monitor legal and risk-related activities, tracking key milestones and providing regular updates in collaboration with key department leaders and key finance and strategic planning partner. (20%)
- Facilitating key leaders in the development and review of legal policies, compliance frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies. (20%)
- Organizing and supporting meetings, including agenda setting, note-taking, and follow-up actions. (10%)
- Streamlining internal and external communications related to legal and risk initiatives. (10%)
- Developing and preparing reports, briefing materials, and presentations for senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders. (10%)
- Supporting the coordination of external reviews, audits, and legal assessments. (5%)
- Performing other duties as assigned to support the legal and risk management functions. (5%)
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in legal affairs, risk management, or a related field within a nonprofit, corporate, or similar environment.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, or related discipline; advanced legal or risk management certifications preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
- Strong understanding of legal frameworks, compliance, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong technology skills, including proficiency with project management tools, Microsoft Office 365, MS Teams, and legal or compliance management systems.
- Action-oriented with a high level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
- Ability to influence and build consensus across diverse organizational stakeholders.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with standard office equipment.
- Minimal physical exertion required.
- Travel required – expected minimum of 5%, with occasional travel for meetings or external engagements.
- No significant physical risks or hazards.
The starting rate is $92,000 to $110,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
