Strategic Director, National Breast Cancer Roundtable

This is a remote, home-based position. candidates from all US geographies will be considered.

Under the direction of the VP, National Roundtables & Coalitions, the strategic director provides thought leadership and strategy development for the American Cancer Society National Breast Cancer Roundtable (ACS NBCRT) in breast cancer care delivery and innovation. In addition to strategy development, the strategic director oversees planning, implementation, and evaluation of ACS NBCRT priority initiatives and projects that span the breast cancer continuum from screening, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care.

The strategic director provides leadership support to the volunteer-led roundtable and facilitates and supports strategic decision-making by working with and through the ACS NBCRT Tri-Chairs and Steering Committee as well as providing leadership support to the ACS NBCRT priority task groups, standing committees, and ad hoc committees. The strategic director recruits, cultivates, and manages high-level volunteers including leading clinical and scientific subject matters experts and leaders of academic institutions, cancer centers, community cancer centers, patient advocacy organizations, governmental agencies, private sector organizations, and corporations. This position identifies emerging science and trends, translating applied research, formulating science-based public health strategies, and builds external partnerships to advance the ACS mission, across the breast cancer continuum.

This position will provide strategic direction, collaborating with ACS and ACS CAN team members, managing a team, and oversees implementation of breast cancer activities related to the ACS NBCRT and its national strategic plan. The strategic director represents ACS externally through collaborative initiatives and national, regional, and state conferences, workgroups, and meetings. The strategic director work closely with the VP and ACS development colleagues to establish cases for support and present funding opportunities to support the development of this portfolio of work.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops strategy and programming to advance breast cancer priority initiatives and projects for the roundtable.
  • With key ACS and roundtable leaders, develops and ensures the implementation of the roundtable’s strategic plan and communicates progress on the implementation of the plan.
  • Recruits and manages key leadership volunteer roles of the roundtable including the Tri-Chairs, Steering Committee, priority task group chairs, and standing committees as well as organizational and corporate member representatives.
  • Oversees the roundtable’s membership recruitment and management processes.
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates the work of the NBCRT Program Manager.
  • Ensures the development and implementation of a communications plan to keep roundtable leaders, members, funders, and other key stakeholders informed of the roundtable priority initiatives and impact. Develops and maintains website and communications systems as needed.
  • Works with and across the Business Unit on data collection, tracking and reporting of the Pillar Metrics and in support of the roundtable evaluation plan.
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of in-person and virtual events and committee/task group meetings ranging in size from 12 to 200 attendees.
  • Monitors science and trends, emerging issues, and best practices across the breast cancer care continuum.
  • Monitors the external landscape in breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and care delivery to inform strategy development and new opportunities.
  • Builds relationships across the Patient Support, Discovery, and Advocacy Pillars as well as with Development team members to ensure alignment and coordination.
  • With ACS development team members, develops and writes cases for support and proposals for sponsorship and grant funding.
  • With NBCRT leadership volunteers and enterprise team members, develops scientific publications, position papers, and policy documents. Develops and delivers professional presentations.
  • Works closely with the Patient Support Business Operations team to manage and oversee the NBCRT budget.
  • Conducts special projects and initiatives as needed.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

FORMAL KNOWLEDGE:     

  • Master's or PhD in health-related field, including MPH or clinical degree (MSN, MSW) [preferred] or requisite experience in health care delivery settings with related undergraduate degree (e.g., RN, BSW). Experience in breast cancer science, clinical delivery, administration, public health work, or research preferred.
  • Robust experience in planning and implementing collaborative initiatives.  
  • Formal breast cancer knowledge and related work experience strongly preferred.
  • Established network within the breast cancer community.

The starting rate is $100,000 to $110,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
