Director, Foundation Relations - Remote

This is a fully remote position and can be based anywhere within the U.S.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Foundation Relations, this position is primarily responsible for the building, oversight, and leadership of a growing team of frontline foundation fundraisers (and additional Foundation Relations staff as needed) working across the country to lead foundation revenue. Additionally, the Director will also be a frontline fundraiser with a portfolio of foundation/institutional philanthropic donors and carry a personal revenue goal of approximately $1 million+ annually. The Director will be responsible for overarching team strategy, reviewing material, regular monitoring of revenue and staff productivity, and supporting the effective creation of high-quality proposals and donor communication. Major objective of this role is to support staff in their goals and help them secure new funding from foundations across all programming. Responsible for supporting the success of collective team goal of $5 - $10 million in Foundation revenue.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead efforts related to nationwide frontline solicitation of foundation prospects
  • Directly oversee a team of 4+ frontline foundation fundraisers with varying levels of experience. Help staff identify and develop personal areas of strength and support growth in areas needing further development Responsible for supporting the success of collective team goal of $5 - $10 million in Foundation revenue.
  • Personally manage portfolio of 10-50 donors; submit proposals and make requests that will lead to approximately $1 million in gifts and grants secured.
  • Oversee and improve stewardship and reporting to foundation donors across the enterprise
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to ensure coordinated and interdependent achievement of regional fundraising goals

FORMAL KNOWLEDGE

Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of direct supervisory experience of a team of 2 or more donor-facing individuals. Successful track record of securing six, seven, and eight-figure gifts from foundations.

OTHER SKILLS

  • Established ability to build and cultivate relationships with foundations
  • Ability to drive lead generation for foundation giving opportunities
  • Strong working knowledge of the major gifts area; sales management and campaign experience is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar database
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, as is computer proficiency
  • Ability to establish collegial, effective working relationships and partner with staff and volunteers
  • Strong financial acumen
  • The ability to be an ambassador for the American Cancer Society
  • Ability to understand work within a complex organizational structure

SPECIALIZED TRAINING

Candidate must have prior experience with foundations. They must also have a superior grasp of copywriting and grammar. Candidate should have knowledge of restricted fund accounting principles, procedures, and standards. Cover letter required.

SPECIAL MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Some travel will be required.

The starting rate is $120,000 to $130,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
