Director, CEO Internal Communications

The Director, Internal CEO Communications, is a strategic partner to the CEO, responsible for shaping and delivering internal messaging that connects employees to the organization’s vision, values, and priorities. This role ensures the CEO’s voice is consistently reflected across internal channels, fostering transparency, trust, and engagement throughout the enterprise. By crafting clear, compelling narratives and managing communication platforms, the Director helps align employees with ACS’s mission and strategic direction. Deep collaboration with the National Internal Communications team is essential to implement integrated communication strategies that reinforce leadership priorities and support a unified employee experience.

Success in this role is defined by the ability to build a strong internal culture, drive employee understanding of leadership goals, and support the CEO in communicating authentically and effectively across the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads the development and execution of internal communication strategies that elevate the CEO’s voice across the organization, ensuring alignment with ACS’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. (30%)
  • Crafts and manages proactive and responsive internal messaging on behalf of the CEO, including executive emails, intranet posts, talking points, and presentations, to foster transparency, trust, and engagement. (25%)
  • Coordinates and prepares the CEO for internal engagements and live communications, such as town halls, team forums, and video messages, ensuring message consistency and strategic alignment. (15%)
  • Collaborates with the National Internal Communications team, to integrate CEO communications into broader internal strategies and ensure consistent, timely messaging across all channels. (15%)
  • Monitors employee feedback and internal sentiment related to CEO communications, providing insights and recommendations to refine messaging and enhance organizational alignment. (10%)
  • Supports the development of executive messaging frameworks and internal narratives that reflect ACS’s strategic goals, cultural values, and programmatic impact. (5%)

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree
  • ​Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree
  • ​Years of experience:  7-10

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or executive communications, with a strong emphasis on supporting C-suite leaders.
  • Proven success in developing strategic internal communication plans, writing for executive audiences, and producing content for high-impact internal events such as town halls and board meetings.
  • Experience in healthcare, science, medical, or nonprofit sectors is essential.

Executive Communication & Messaging

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messaging that reflects the CEO’s voice and vision.
  • Skilled in developing internal content such as executive emails, intranet posts, presentations, and talking points that align with organizational priorities.
  • Proven ability to translate complex organizational, strategic, and cultural topics into accessible and engaging communications for employees.

Strategic Leadership & Advisory

  • Demonstrated experience advising senior leaders on internal communications strategy, including sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Strong ability to align messaging with enterprise-wide goals and foster employee understanding of leadership priorities.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing communication strategies that support organizational change, employee engagement, and leadership visibility.

Event & Content Production

  • Experience planning internal communications for high-profile events such as CEO-led town halls, board meetings, and team forums.
  • Ability to manage logistics, content development, and presentation materials that ensure clarity, consistency, and strategic alignment.
  • ​Skilled in coordinating live and recorded communications that engage employees and reinforce leadership messaging.

Channel Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Ability to manage and optimize content distribution across multiple internal channels to ensure timely, relevant, and consistent messaging that reflects the CEO’s voice and priorities.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work closely with leaders across departments—including People, Strategy, Mission andDevelopment —to ensure CEO communications are aligned with organizational goals and resonate with diverse internal audiences.
  • Skilled at coordinating cross-functional teams and integrating input from subject matter experts to produce unified, high-impact internal communications.

Adaptability & Judgment

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and a commitment to high-quality, employee-centered communication.
  • Maintains professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information and executive-level messaging.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel will be required on an as-needed basis (between 10-15%) to support CEO at in personinternal engagements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work is typically performed in a home office environment.
  • Must be available to respond to urgent communication needs outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary.

The starting rate is $91,500 to $110,000 . The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
