Advocacy & Program Integration Summer Intern 2019

Position Description:
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization. Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. Based in Washington, DC with offices throughout the country, ACS CAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national priority.

The grassroots & program integration intern will assist the ACS CAN grassroots campaigns, digital, and volunteer engagement teams on national legislative campaigns, volunteer engagement, and event planning.

1. Develop and assist with implementation of plans to engage advocates and volunteers in advocacy campaigns, both online and on-the-ground;
2. Assist in the development of grassroots materials and tools, including website articles, fact sheets about campaigns and other content to help engage and motivate grassroots volunteers to take action;
3. Support the annual Lights of HOPE fundraising event logistics and data processing;
4. Assist with planning and develop materials for Colleges Against Cancer campus-based advocacy initiatives;
5. Develop integration opportunities and reporting on advocacy and Relay For Life;
6. Assist with our social media assets and help produce content that will recruit new followers and online volunteers;
7. All other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Candidates must be at least a college sophomore, preferably with a major in political science, communications/public relations, journalism or related field and be able to dedicate 37.5 hours per week for 10 weeks to the internship.

Candidates must also have strong oral, written and computer skills, preferably with expertise in Microsoft Excel, be a team player, handle multiple projects effectively, and have an interest in public policy and health care issues.

All Interns Must meet the following requirements:
•Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you  have completed your freshman year of college;
•Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale);
•Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester
oNote: an internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation.

• Two references from academic/professional sources addressing the student’s credentials based on the internship’s skill requirements
• Recent transcript attesting to their GPA and standing as a full-time student
